My journey began with a clear idea. To make beautiful, non-toxic products that are safe for you and your home.
At Walden & Finch, everything is made with love and attention to detail. I make soaps and candles by hand in small batches in the New York Hudson Valley. These are the recipes I use in my own home for my family. I believe in the power of simplicity, and that’s reflected in my products. We are 100% vegan, paraben free, pthalate free, sulfate free, and palm oil free.
But this isn’t just about making candles and soaps. It’s about creating a lifestyle that values sustainability and well-being. It’s about making choices that are good for us and good for our planet.
The name of my brand is meaningful to me. Walden represents the ideas and values of Henry David Thoreau and his writings at Walden Pond in the 1800s. Thoreau lived in a single-room cabin for about 2 years as an experiment in minimalism and self-reliance. His writings during that time inspired the Transcendentalist movement in the United States which still resonates today. In the modern world, we get so caught up in wealth, possessions, and entertainment that we forget about what's really important. Thoreau saw materialism as a distraction which diverted our attention from the beauty of the natural world and the Divine. He loved nature, simplicity, and solitude and advocated for a slow, contemplative life. My work is a tribute to these values.
So, who's Finch? Finches are small songbirds. To me, they represent hope and joy. They're a symbol of nature and peace; freedom and bravery. Birds wake up every morning with a beautiful song in their heart. They fly across arbitrary human boundaries. They comfort us and inspire us- each with their own signature song. Together, Walden & Finch stand for an intentional, purposeful life that celebrates simple pleasures.
Thank you for being a part of this journey! I hope my products bring a little joy into your life.
